Connecting with Corntassle Cottage!

Now it is time to play a little bit of day to day catching up and connecting with Corntassle Cottage and the happenings of the denzians within!

So many things have gone on around our happy homestead during the last couple of weeks, that have kept me pretty busy and leaving me to pick and choose certain posts to write and others that would have to wait for a few days and well then that few days, turns into a few more days, and even still a few more days! Holy cow, a never ending cycle, so it seems.

During the second to last week of July, while lil man was at camp, I spent that week, finally getting lil miss’ bedroom painted and her new furniture put together, including her new memory foam mattress! During the last week of July and first week of August, I was focusing on getting her new curtains and body pillow done, so that I could finally say that her room was done! Of course, that also meant washing all of the old bed clothes to have clean ones for her new bed and getting up all of the wall decor that we had found during the past year while perusing thrift stores and garage sales!

The best part of lil man being at camp, was that he got to see his girlfriend…and we actually got to meet her for the first time. They have actually been an “item” for about 2 1/2 years, but since they only see each other at region wide church functions, which means that they only get to see each other 2 or 3 times a year. The other thing that had him excited was because he had bought a ring for her, of course mom helped him pick it out! LOL! I thought that it was best to go with something meaningful, without having too much meaning considering they are only 14…so we went with a traditional birthstone Claddagh ring, which stands for Love, Loyalty, & Friendship…and I really thought that said it all! I am happy to report that she was thrilled with the ring and she really seems like a very sweet young lady! If things continue on as they are, I will have a new daughter in law as soon as he is old enough to accomplish it! LOL!

On the last Friday of July, D-man stopped by after work and decided to hang around and visit for a while. I asked him if he was interested in doing a bit of running with lil miss and myself and then have lunch with us, and he was happy to say yes. So we ran to get a few of the fabric remnants that I would be using to make lil miss’ curtains and body pillow for lil miss’ bedroom, and I also had to get a couple of things from WallyWorld for the week and then it was on to lunch! I had a gift card for The Olive Garden, so we all had unlimited Soup, Salad, Breadsticks for our lunch. It was a great day, getting to hang out with at least two of my babies!

On the 30th of July, as it was my sweet D-man’s 21st birthday, he came by the house to take me out to lunch in celebration! I am happy to say that I got to join him by sharing his first drink as a 21 year old! We went to little Mexican restaurant that we like to go to and he ordered a Pina Colada with his lunch and I ordered a Strawberry Daquiri! I rarely drink and never that early in the day, but I was honored to share that experience with him and even more so that he wanted it as well!

Sadly, again due to rain and everything else, my poor garden has been lacking my much needed attention and it looks as though it may have to wait for another day or two so that I can mow our massively overgrown lawn! That of course, is one task that I am oh so not looking forward to tackling, I did manage to get at least the far back section done, in 2 hours! I have at least that much more to do however with the area right behind the house and the front yard.

Then a couple of days ago, I decided to make some cupcakes, since I had a few boxes of cake mix in the cabinet. We decided to go with a yellow cake mix and a homemade powdered sugar frosting and lil miss wanted me to turn it blue. Well, I have decided that I need to work on my icing when using liquid food coloring. The frosting was good, but it was a little bit too runny, though they still tasted pretty darn good! LOL! Maybe I will try again, with a batch of white cupcakes!

The hubby is now back to working 7 days a week, at least for now. So that of course means that the care of everything will now fall to me and while I can be Super Mom, I don’t always want to be!

And in case I forgot to mention, I have also been trying to get some sort of lesson plan ready for the kids’ schooling this year. I am going to use a combination of the Robinson Curriculum, Kahn Academy, and Easy Peasy All In One Homeschool, because I want to make sure they get as much of a well rounded education as I can possibly give them! I have been working on getting grading forms and weekly plans lined out to make it easier for keeping grades and completing transcripts for them each year.
