Home Made Laundry Soap and Fabric Softener

I have now made my second batch of home made laundry soap and fabric softener mixture…and here is the recipe that I used. I actually doubled this batch and added extra essential oil to my fabric softener epsom salt mix.

Fabric Softener

8 C Epsom Salts
200 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
200 drops Myrrh Essential Oil

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly.
The oils that I used leave a very nice scent, without making it overly girly or flowery.

Laundry Soap

6 – Bars Fels Naptha
2 – 76 oz Boxes Borax
2 – 55 oz Boxes Washing Soda
2 – 3LB Containers of Oxy-Clean
4 C Baking Soda
8 C Epsom Salt Mixture

Cut the bars of Fels Naptha into smaller pieces and place in a food processor with a bit of borax and pulse to a granule consistency. Add to the rest of the ingredients and mix well.

The first batch that I made in October lasted by about 3 months, though could have lasted longer, had I used more scent. To get the clothes to smell good, I used 2 scoops which totaled about 8 TBS of the first batch.

For this most recent batch, I am going to start out with 1 scoop, totaling 4 TBS, to see how well that works. I also have an extra large capacity top loading washer. I also only use the cold water setting for all of my washing. I am hoping that this batch will last at least 9 months, hopefully I will be able to make it one full year.

My hubby, who rarely pays attention to this sort of thing, said that he really liked the scent of the first batch that I made. I will post an update once I use my first scoop to wash a load to confirm the amount used and describe how well one scoop scents a load.

If you try this recipe, please drop a note and let me know what your thoughts are!
