A few months ago, I saw a commercial for this new product called Ice Cream Magic and new that my lil miss would get an absolute kick out of having one, so when I got the opportunity to try one out and offer a review, I was ecstatic. I remember growing up and having homemade ice cream on all summer holidays as a kid, my mom had one of those huge old ice cream makers that used a ton of ice and rock salt.
When our Ice Cream Magic arrived in the mail, we instantly opened the package and my lil miss absolutely gushed at the adorable design of the product. It is designed to look like an ice cream cone, it comes with a little spoon that also looks like a little ice cream cone and a recipe book with several different recipes for different flavors of ice cream. The recipe instructions are very easy to follow. She was super excited to try it out so I had to grab a carton of heavy cream from the store.
We have used it twice now. The first time we tried the recipe for chocolate ice cream and the second we went with straight vanilla. I think that on the first go around that I added too much chocolate to the ingredient mix which made it too full for the little freezing cup and after shaking for 4 minutes it was still extremely soupy. On the second go around, everything was followed to a tee and after 7 minutes of shaking it started to thicken. I think with a couple more minutes it would have been the perfect consistency. The flavor, however, was wonderful!
The Ice Cream Magic is a really fun product and easy for the kids to use. The length of time it takes for completion is somewhere between 7 and 10 minutes, at least for us. Maybe next time, I will try to crush the ice into even smaller bits, to see if that lessens the time frame needed. The recipe book includes some great flavors to try and has simple instructions that are easy to follow. I look forward to trying it again to see how best to maintain the 3 or 4 minute time span.
