Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Barbecue and Homemade Sauce

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Barbecue and Homemade Sauce

As I have stated in previous recipe post’s in which I have used my new Crock Pot…I absolutely love my new Crock Pot! LOL! I never really thought I would ever use one except to possibly make a roast and since I never had the money for a roast, how often would I use the thing. What on earth was I thinking!?!? There are so many reasons why I love my Crock Pot!

So yesterday I got from the freezer the almost five pound boneless pork loin that I had bought at the grocery store about three weeks ago. I decided that I was going to attempt Barbecue Pulled Pork in my crock pot. But I wanted to make my favorite barbecue sauce to go with it. This sauce is wonderful, not to spicy and not to sweet…just enough of both. This is actually a recipe that I found several years ago in a Women’s Bowling Association cookbook that they sold as a fundraiser of some sort. My mom was an avid bowler in town so now I have several of them in my possession.

Tangy Barbecue Sauce
32 oz Ketchup
1/2 C Brown Sugar
1/2 C Sugar
1 1/2 t Salt
1/4 C Worcestershire Sauce
2 T Mustard
1/4 C Lemon Juice
1/4 C Onion – Optional

I do not use the following step…I blend all in a bowl and pour into old ketchup bottles and store in the fridge. I also don’t use the onion, only due to a finicky kid. LOL!

* Cookbook directions say to blend all ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour into sealable container, once cool.

Now for the pulled pork…
In the crock pot I poured in one Lipton Onion Soup mix packet and poured about a cup of the homemade barbecue sauce and mixed them up. Then I popped in my pork loin and covered with more sauce, put the lid on, and turned it to high for about four hours.

Pulled the pork loin out and used two forks, pulling in opposite directions to separate the meat. I cleaned out the crock before returning the meat to the pot. Return meat to the crock pot, cover with more sauce and heat on low for at least another hour.

I had hoped for more leftovers than what was left…I guess next time I will have to pick up two loins…but I won’t complain, at least they are eating. 🙂 LOL!

Hope you enjoyed this recipe and should you give it a try, drop me a note and let me know what you thought.
